WebMCP is live: search Buddhist studies with AI

20 October 2026

Use a browser AI agent that supports WebMCP to search our public records. Results appear on the webpage; the usual search forms remain available.

Check your browser and agent first

You need a WebMCP-capable browser and an AI agent that can call website tools. Pasting a URL into an ordinary chat window may not enable this feature.

  1. Use a compatible browser and agent. We have tested Chrome and Edge with the experimental capability enabled.
  2. To try it in Chrome, enter chrome://flags/#enable-webmcp-testing in the address bar. If available, set it to Enabled and relaunch. Save your work first.
  3. Open one of our search pages and let your agent discover its tools. Enabling the flag does not create a chat panel.

No flag or compatible agent? Use our regular search forms. See the official Chrome instructions; availability varies by version and device.

How to use it

  1. Open a search pageBibliography, authors, journals or advanced search
  2. Tell your agent what to findSpecify keywords and search conditions
  3. Check and run the toolReview the tool and conditions in your agent
  4. Read the results on the pageOpen records or save the results link
Search workflow: results appear on the current page, without automatic navigation.

For example, on the bibliography search page, ask: “Find records with 禪宗 in the title.” Check the result count and list, then open a record of interest.

Want to save your search? Choose “Open reproducible results page” below the results and copy that page’s link. Tool searches do not update the current address bar. Reopening the link runs the search again, so results may change.

What can you search?

  • Bibliography: find records by title, author or keyword.
  • Authors: check names, aliases and related publications.
  • Journals: explore published journal records, including titles and publishers.
  • Advanced bibliography search: combine conditions and refine by date, language or material type.

Search interfaces are available in 繁體中文, English and 日本語. Available tools depend on the page and search mode. Search terms are not translated automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account, subscription or API key?

Our public search tools do not require a library account or model API key. Your chosen agent may have its own account, subscription or model fees.

What if tools are missing or the search returns nothing?

Check that your browser and agent support WebMCP, and open the appropriate search page. For zero results, broaden the field, dates or keywords. If the service is busy or times out, wait and try again, or use the regular form.

Can I get full text or cite the AI answer directly?

Tools provide public bibliography, author and journal metadata. Full-text access depends on the source’s licence. Check the original record and publication before citing; do not rely solely on an AI summary.

Can I decline analytics cookies? Where does my question go?

Public WebMCP tools do not require consent to tracking. Our search service receives the necessary search conditions. How your agent sends questions and results depends on its privacy policy. Avoid personal data and unpublished research content.

Does it work on phones? Is this a remote MCP server?

The page adapts to smaller screens, but agent support depends on your device and product. WebMCP exposes tools on the current webpage; it is not an endpoint to enter in remote MCP server settings.

Need help? Include the search page, browser and agent names, search conditions and an error screenshot when you contact us. Do not send API keys or login credentials.
