| 摘要 | The struggle for human rights in Burma and Tibet evince religious influence: their respective leaders, Aung San Suu Kyi and the Dalai Lama, are dedicated to Buddhist principles and guide their movements accordingly. Yet, human rights discourse remains largely focused on politics. Religion is consigned to the realm of private concern, often creating and reinforcing a separation between 'heart and mind' in society, directly impacting the protection and promotion of human rights. An analysis that takes religion into account heals this divide. In particular, Engaged Buddhism reveals that both personal and social transformations are essential for the universal realisation of dignity, restoring wholeness to the human condition and contributing greatly to knowledge in the field. |
