| 摘要 | The bilateral relationship between India and China, which often marked as rivalry and hostility in the recent past, had been warm and cordial for centuries. The cultural and economic exchanges between the two Asian giants date back to ancient times. Since fourth century, several Chinese pilgrims such as Fa xian and Xuanzang visited India to learn Buddhism through the ancient Silk Road, which was the major trade route between India and China in the ancient times. Even during the period of colonialism, Indian leaderships were critical of the negative attitude of the British Government towards China and encouraged the Chinese freedom struggle against the colonial power. After the independence, the Sino-Indian relationship was further escalated when India openly supported the ongoing freedom movement of China and became second non-communist state to recognize the People's Republic of China. This age old relationship, however, stared stumbling after the Tibetan uprising and led to a major war in 1962. In this regard, the article gives a brief history of the Sino-Indian relations in the age of friendship and cooperation. |
