| 摘要 | For the Hindus of Asia, Muktinath, situated in the high Himalaya of north central Nepal near Tibet, is a holy site dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This paper is the first of two studies based on anthropological-geographical research that examines nine attributes of the "sacred field" of Muktinath and vicinity. These are: its dedication to universal and supernatural concepts, association with natural elements, historic tradition, staged development, structured approach, physical ascent (as a high mountain site), peripheral location, secular associations, and its overall distinctiveness when compared with other such shrines in the Himalaya. The analysis of one attribute, the association with natural elements (water, fire, and ammonite fossil stones), is especially revealing of the sanctity and mysteriousness of the place. Pour les hindous asiatiques, Muktinath, situé dans les hautes montagnes de l'Himalaya au centre nord du Népal, près du Tibet, est un lieu sacré voué au Dieu Vishnou. Cet article concerne la première de deux études basées sur une recherche anthropologique et géographique qui examine neuf attributs du "lieu sacré" de Muktinath et des environs. Ces attributs sont les suivants: sa vocation à des concepts universels et supernaturels, son association avec les éléments naturels, sa tradition historique, son évolution progressive, son approche structurée, son accès difficile (site de haute montagne), son emplacement périphérique, son association séculaire, et son caractère distinct comparé aux autres lieux sacrés de l'Himalaya.
