본 연구에서는 국가지정, 지방지정 문화재 112개 사찰건물을 대상으로 사찰의 가람배치와 건축형식 등을 고찰하였다. 이를 위하여 사찰건물을 불, 보살, 신중의 3단 신앙에 따라 구분하였다. 가람배치에서는 상단 영역에서 주불전과 기타 불전의 배치가 여러 가지 요인에 따라 병렬, 교축, 중축, 독립의 4개 형태로 배치되어 있음을 알 수 있다. 3단의 전각들은 불교적 우주관과 연계된 동심원적 구조와 유사한 배치를 보이고 있다. 건축형식에서는 평면, 지붕, 공포, 창호, 천장, 불단 등을 분석한 결과 전각들이 3단위계에 따라 건물규모, 가구형식, 내외 의장을 달리하고 있음을 알 수 있다.
purpose of this study is to identify the layout of buddhist temples and architectural style of 112 buddhist buildings which are designated by central and local governments in Korea. For this study, the buddhist buildings are grouped by three stages of buddhist enlightenment (Buddha, Bodhisativa, guardian god). Based on parallel, orthogonal, straight and independent axis, the main buddhist halls are connected to secondary halls. The Buddhist buildings of three stage are arranged on the similar concentric circle based on buddhist concept of universe. The survey of plan, roof style, bracket system, window pattern, ceiling style, Buddhist altar are conducted. Thus it come to a conculsion that the size, architectural style and design are closely related to the three stages of Buddhist enlightenment.
