| 摘要 | 직업은 경제적 의미, 사회적 의미, 종교적 의미가 있으나, 초기불교와 대승불교의 재가자 직업윤리에는 차이점이 있다. 초기불교에서 직업은 개인과 사회의 행복을 지향하지만, 직업을 통해 보시와 지계를 실천하면 천상에 태어날 수 있다는 재가자의 정명 실천은 종교적 의미도 지니고 있다. 한편 17세기 일본의 스즈끼 쇼산의 세속화된 직업윤리는 중국 선종의 선농일치와 일본 천태종의 노동 중시 사상 등의 영향을 받았는데, 직업에 충실하고 정직하게 이윤을 추구하고 사회에 이익을 준다는 생각으로 직업에 종사하라는 내용은 직업윤리 중에 경제적 의미와 사회적 의미를 포함하고 있다. 또 직업이 곧 불도 수행이라는 것은 직업에 종교적 의미를 직접 부여한 것인데, 이렇게 직업의 종교적 의미를 고취하는 것은 초기불교 직업윤리에서는 발견하기 힘들다. 그러나 스즈끼 쇼산의 직업윤리는 발전하는 화폐경제에서 구체적 현실에 부합하는 적절한 방편을 제시한 것으로 볼 수 있다. Occupations have economic, social, and religious meanings. But there are differences in the laypeople’s work ethics of early Buddhism and Mahāyāna Buddhism. In early Buddhism, the purpose of occupation is happiness of individuals and society. Furthermore, the practice of Right livelihood, which is said to be born in heaven by practicing Buddhist alms and Observing five precepts, has a religious meaning. Japanese Shosan's secularized work ethic of 17th century includes economic and social meanings among the work ethics. It formed under the influences of China's Zen sect and the labor-oriented work ethic of Japan's Tiantai Buddhism. And it acknowledged pursuit of profits honestly and benefits society. In addition, the fact that a job is a Buddhist practice directly gives religious meaning to a job, but it is difficult to find such a promotion of the meaning of a job in early Buddhist work ethics. Shosan's work ethic can be seen as suggesting appropriate measures in line with the specific reality in the developing monetary economy. |
