| 摘要 | At present Kargil is associated with the so called Kargil war, an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May and July 1999 in the Kargil District of Ladakh, which falls in the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir. Culturally, Kargil District has much more in common with Baltistan (on the Pakistani side of the LoC) than with the District of Leh (with which it constitutes Ladakh). Islam came in Baltisan and Purig (ancient name of Kargil District) at the same time, in the xIv century. In a very short span of time, the whole area of Baltisan and 80 per cent of the population of Purig became Muslim, through the efforts of Sayyid Amir Kabir 'Ali Hamdani and his disciples. The change of name of the Purig kingdom's ruler between 1450 and 1475 from Amrod Cho to Murid Khan indicates his conversion to Islam. His descendant Habib Cho (1490-1510) accepted Shi'a doctrines propagated in his times in Baltisan and Purig by Mir Shams al Din Iraqi. A survey of Purig's history since its acceptance of Islam and through the Dogra conquest up to present times (conducted also through a comparison between the relevant chapters of Hashmatullah Khan's Tarikh-i Jammu Kasmir and Kacho Sikandar Khan Sikandar's Qadim Ladakh) will show the cultural peculiarities of its population and their actual significance. |
