| 摘要 | This study, intends to discuss how the concept of dāsa was perceived by Lord Buddha and the place this social phenomenon received in the wider spectrum of morality and ethics in Buddhism. The study begins by defining what is possibly meant by the term dāsa. Having, thus, laid the necessary foundation for the study it presents evidence for the existence of such individuals in India during the Buddhist epoch. Then the study deals with Buddhist discourses and teachings concerning the institution of dāsa and individuals called dāsa. Rest of the study focuses on the rationale behind such a response in Buddhism. |
