| 摘要 | 이 연구는 모디 정부 이후 인도에서 요가가 어떻게 힌두화되고 있는지를 최근 인도 현대요가와 관련된 여러 논쟁을 일으킨 인물인 스와미 람데브를 통해 살피려 한다. 이를 위해 다음 세 가지 작업을 본 고의 주요 논지로 한다. 먼저 ‘힌두화(Hinduization)’의 개념을 산스크리트화, 샤프론화 그리고 브라흐만화라는 개념을 통해서 그 내용을 구체화한다. 다음으로 인도 현대요가의 선구자들인 요겐드라와 쿠발라야난다의 민족주의적 입장과 과학에 대한 관점을 고찰하여 이들이 요가를 과학적으로 규명하려 한 노력에 대해 살펴본다. 끝으로 스와미 람데브의 현대 과학에 대한 입장을 살펴보고 그의 입장에 영향을 준 아리야 사마즈의 창시자 다야난드 사라스와티의 관점과 비교해본다. 스와미 람데브는 다야난드 사라스와티와 유사한 민족주의적 입장과 과학관을 주장하고는 있지만, 그의 비이성적 태도 때문에 아리야 사마즈의 진정한 후계자로 볼 수 없다. 나아가 스와미 람데브의 극단적 태도는 현대요가의 선구자인 요겐드라나 쿠발라야난다가 요가를 과학적으로 규명하고자 한 자세에도 반대된다. 결론적으로 스와미 람데브의 요가와 아유르베다에 대한 비이성적인 주장은 많은 인도인들에게 인도의 고대과학이 현대 서구과학보다 우수하다는 잘못된 인식을 심어줌으로서 극단적 힌두 민족주의를 불러일으키는 결과를 가져올 위험이 많다. 이와 같은 요가에 대한 극우 힌두주의적인 스와미 람데브의 견해와 활동은 현재 인도 정부의 힌두화 정책에 일조하고 있다 This study aims to examine the recent Hinduization of modern yoga in India, focusing on Swami Ramdev, the most famous yoga teacher in India. First of all, the concept of Hinduization was first compared and reviewed with concepts such as Sanskritization and Brahmanization. Next, among the pioneers of modern yoga in India in the early 20th century, Yogendra and Kubalayananda's nationalistic positions and perspectives on science were examined. And I introduced a brief biography of Swami Ramdev. Finally, Ramdev's position on nationalism and Western science was compared to that of Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Ariya Samaj, who influenced Ramdev a lot. Through this study, I argued that he could not be regarded as Ariya Samaj's true successor because of his irrational attitude, although he argued for a nationalist position and a view of science similar to Dayanand Saraswati. And I argued that Ramdev’s an attitude to Western science was contrary to the efforts of modern yoga pioneers Yogendra and Kubalayananda who strove for the scientific investigation of yoga. And I finally argued that Ramdev is currently contributing to the wrong Hinduization policy of the Indian government because he stirred up the nationalistic feelings of most Indians through irrational claims on yoga and ancient medicine of India. |
