| 摘要 | Christianity is very important within the Korean immigrant community—churches provide community services and create an ethnic forum for socializing and status seeking. It is apparent that Koreans adopt a Weberian Protestant ethic by being born again, but, in many cases, their new Christian belief system verifies various aspects of traditional Korean culture. Being born again is an ongoing process in which individuals make choices between Korean influences of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Shamanism and newly discovered American ideas represented by born again Christianity. Yet, not all born again Korean-American Christians feel so sanguine about their religious experience: some feel manipulated, because they feel that only members of the business class are favored by born again churches. Finally, as more Koreans become born again Christians, their belief in a personal relationship with God challenges the hierarchical structure of their church's authority. |
