From the viewpoint of practical ethics, the thought of karman and saṃsāra is just the thing which the Buddhist lifestyle has been easily explained as the everyday's meanings. We of course know that many and various arguments concerning this two religious concepts has ever been for long time discussed within the relevant academic schools in the very different ways and then there are the variety of interpretations of the above terms depending on the Buddhist traditions. However, at this point I think that what we should do is not to argue karman and saṃsāra from a certain metaphysical viewpoint as usual, but to reinterpret it in the modern ethical act principle and apply it to our everyday life's moral life. That is to say, I try to suggest that we should not extend the conception of karman and saṃsāra to the world of afterlife, but apply its ethical instruction to our actual life instantly. When the modern meaning of karman and saṃsāra is really accepted as this way, I feel that it could probably make us to have a humble attitude towards the natural law surrounding us and further to concede its effects on the formation of our moral character solemnly. For example, if we imagine that the invisible karman power always hangs around us, we might all become true ethical human beings. In this respect, I wish to again emphasize the fact that the Buddhist way of thinking of karman and saṃsāra is not to be regarded as the fatalism which generally tends to have past -oriented self reflection, but as literally the vivid and living moral energy which have enough future-oriented ethical implications. This essay examines such an aspects of the thought of karman and saṃsāra.
