The objectives of this paper are (1) to examine agricultural output in Burma, particularly rice, in relation to Burma's economic development needs and in relation to the present and prospective population of the country, and (2) to note the cultural obstacles to population control policies which arise because of the impact of Buddhist thought and philosophy.
