| 摘要 | ]본론은 초기 열반경 텍스트의 ‘암바팔리 에피소드’를 통해서 여성문제를 우선적으로 고찰해 이론이 아닌 이야기에서 전해지는 초기시대의 여성상을 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 힌두 전통에서 여성의 하향적 위치와 초기 불교시대 복권되는 여성을 통해서 다양하게 전개된 여성 문제를 사회, 종교, 문학에서 살펴보는 계기가 될 수 있다. 핵심은 권력 안에서 논의된다는 것이다.암바팔리 에피소드에 의하면, 리차비족이라는 귀족 남성과 대립적 계층 차이를 극복하고 종교적으로 권위 있는 붓다에게 우선적으로 공양한 사건을 순차적으로 다루고 있다. 암바팔리 여인에 대한 에피소드는 초기 열반경 텍스트에서 완전한 이야기로 전해지지만, 후대 대승 경전에서 단편적으로 다루고 있기 때문에 여성에 대한 후대 작가들의 왜곡과 삭제를 가름할 수 있게 한다. The innovative aspect of Ambapāli's episode lies in its dramatic revalorization of the feminine. its reassessment of the soteriological relevance not just of the feminine, in fact, but of socially defined gender characterizations in general, a reevaluation of all those qualities and expectations culturally ascribed to male and female. Buddhist institutions of all types in all forms of Buddhism are more open to men than to women. Women are stereotyped as incapable of or uninterested in serious Buddhist practice. Allow Ambapāli's episode full access to Buddhist institutions and practices, the kind that men have always had, and the imbalance between male and female exemplars of the tradition will disappear. |
