Buddhist psychotherapy is based on Buddhist psychology, and the mind, which is the subject of Buddhist psychology, is influenced by the areas of Buddhist philosophy: ontology, epistemology, and theory of truth. While the traditional ontology of Western philosophy is a substantial ontology, the ontology of Buddhist philosophy is dhammalogy. The biggest feature of dhammalogy can be said to be no-self, that is, non-substance. In the dhammalogy, the possibility of therapy, the basis for the possibility of therapy, and the direction of therapy are presented. Dhammalogy is equal in extension to theory of dependent origination. Epistemology is established as a universal and unique epistemology of the subject of cognition. Every moment, through the perception of the senses, a new world is born and destroyed. It is the responsibility of the perceiving subject to decide which world to open. The Four Noble Truths represent the theory of truth. The Noble Truth of Suffering and the Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering have the characteristics of corresponding Truth, the Noble Truth of the Cause of Suffering and the Noble Truth of the Path have the characteristics of the coherent Truth, and the entire Four Noble Truth has the characteristic of the realization of the Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering. And each of the Four Noble Truths can be seen as phenomenology, aitiology, teleology and methodology. The Four Noble Truths can be viewed in terms of correspondence theory of truth, coherence theory of truth, realization theory of truth, and inclusiveness theory of truth. In the Four Noble Truths, 'ariya' can be interpreted as 'to nobility' and 'to the saint' along with the meanings of 'noble' and 'saint'. The last two interpretations are traditional interpretations, while the first interpretation interprets suffering as acting as a trigger to nobleness or sainthood. |
