| 摘要 | 상월원각대조사는 ‘억조창생 구제중생’을 선언하며 ‘구인사(救仁寺)’를 창건하였 다. 따라서 ‘구인(救仁)’에는 구제중생의 의미를 내포하고 있으나 왜 인(人)이 아닌 인(仁)을 사용했는지 그 의미가 명확하지 않다. 그 의미를 파악하기 위하여 상월원각대조사의 행적과 사상에 관한 녹취록을 조사해 봐도 관련 자료의 부족함 등의 이유로 구인의 의미는 명확하게 발견되지 않는다. 따라서 현존 자료를 통해서 인의 의미를 탐구하는 것은 한계가 있으므로 본 연구는 불교 사상 속에서 중생구제의 의미를 한정시킨 후 이를 통해 인의 의미를 추론하는 방법을 제안하였다. 즉, 붓다에 의하면 인간은 즐거운 감정 추구를 통해 행복을 향유하려는 경향이 강한데, 그러한 감정은 변화할 수밖에 없으므로 확고한 행복의 획득에 실패하게 된다. 따라서 감정의 무상성을 깨닫고 욕망의 불꽃이 사라진 상태인 열반을 획득하게 하는 것이 중생구제의 방법이 된다. 이는 구체적으로 욕망의 대상을 가상과 실재로 구별할 수 있는 야타부따 다르샤나(yathābhūtadarśana-如實知見)의 획득을 의미 할 것이다. 이와 같이 본다면 중생구제를 표방한 구인의 의미는 여실지견을 통한 욕망의 소멸이며 그것은 중생을 확고한 행복으로 이끄는 약속이라고 할 수 있을 것이다. Supreme Patriarch Sangwol Wongak founded Guinsa Temple (救仁寺) by declaring that he would save of all people. Guin (救仁) therefore implies the meaning of the salvation of all people, but it is not clear why it used 仁[rén, benevolence], not (人)[rén, people]. In order to understand its meaning, a transcript of Supreme Patriarch Sangwol Wongak’s activities and thoughts is examined, but the meaning of the Guin (救仁) is not clearly found due to the lack of relevant texts. Therefore, there is a limit to exploring the meaning of the 仁 through existing texts, so this study suggests a way to specify the meaning of the salvation of all people in Buddhist thought and then infer the meaning of the 仁 through it. In other words, according to Buddha, people tend to enjoy happiness through the pursuit of pleasant emotions, which inevitably change and thus fail to acquire constant happiness. Therefore, it is a way of the salvation of all people to realize that emotions are not eternal and to acquire Nirvāņa, where the flame of desire has disappeared. This will specifically mean the acquisition of yathābhūtadarśana (如實知見), which can distinguish between virtual and real objects of desire. In this way, the meaning of the salvation of all people is the extinction of desire through yathābhūtadarśana, and it is a promise that leads the people to solid happiness. |
