| 摘要 | This article aims to bridge the distance between the noncalculative state of jinen hōni and we who calculate the meaning of this term. For this purpose, we will 5rst look at Shinran’s original albeit somewhat abstruse account of jinen hōni. Second, we will examine the accounts of Soga Ryōjin 曽我量深 (1875–1971) and Suzuki Daisetsu Teitarō 鈴木大拙貞太郎 (1870–1966), more commonly known as D. T. Suzuki, whose writings formed the conventional understanding of jinen hōni in modern Japan. In the last part, we will brie3y touch upon Tanabe Hajime’s philosophy and his somewhat unconventional interpretation of jinen hōni. |
