Based on the Great Chinese Dictionary,this paper makes a case study of the X-ran double-sound words from Buddhist scriptures to point out the value of the exegesis of Pronunciations and Meanings of Xuanying.Though the book has some defects,it still has important reference implications for vocabulary study,dictionary compilation,and collation of ancient books.
