| 摘要 | 본고는 1990년대 한국불교계에 큰 쟁점으로 떠올랐던 ``돈오점수·돈오논쟁``에 대하여 현시점에서 철학적으로 회고해보고자 하는 것이 목적이다. 성철이 지눌을 비판하면서 제기한 문제는 ``한국불교의 법맥``과 ``돈오돈수`` 수행법이었다. 그리고 이 두 가지 문제는 서로 맞물려 있다. 본고에서는 법맥과 돈점문제와 관련하여 쟁점이 된 문제와 더불어 이것이 그 동안의 연구 성과를 통하여 밝혀진 사실 및 남겨진 과제가 무엇인지를 중심으로 정리하여 보았다. 쟁점을 일으킨 주체를 성철로 상정하고서, 논쟁의 핵심은 무엇이고 그것이 진행과정상에 있어서 어떠한 변화가 일어났으며, 그로 인하여 남겨진 과제가 무엇인지를 밝히고자 하였다. 법맥의 문제에 있어서 성철이 제기한 ``임제-태고법통설``은 그 역사적 진실성은 입증할 수 없지만, 현재 조계종의 성격을 어떻게 규정할 것인가 하는 문제와 맞물려 있음을 알 수 있다. 또한 ``돈오돈수·돈오점수``논쟁은 그 동안 ``보조의 돈오점수에 대한 성철의 비판이 정당한 것인가``하는 문제에 초점이 맞추어져 있었다면, 앞으로의 과제는 성철이 『선문정로』에서 제기한 ``선문의 정로가 무엇인가?``하는 문제에 주목해야 한다는 점을 주장하였다. This paper aims to put in retrospect the controversy of sudden enlightenment and sudden practice vs. sudden enlightenment and gradual practice philosophically in the present point of view. The controversy was the big issue of Korean Buddhist world in 1990. Criticizing Jinul, Seongcheol raised a question about the way of practice, sudden enlightenment and sudden practice and Korean Buddhist lineage. These two problems are related to each other. This paper tried to classify those problems through established research focusing on the disclosed facts and the questions left. On the assumption that the originator of the controversy was Seongcheol, I tried to look into the main point of the controversy, the changes during the controversy, and the problems to solve. In the problems of Buddhist lineage, the truth of ``the theory of Imjae-Taego`s Buddhist lineage`` can`t be demonstrated, but we can understand the relation with the lineage problem and the character of the Chogye Order. And if the established controversy of sudden enlightenment and sudden practice vs. sudden enlightenment and gradual practice was focusing on the validity of Seongcheol`s critique on Bojo`s sudden enlightenment and gradual practice, in the future we have to pay attention to the problem of finding the right way to Zen which Seongcheol had presented in his book, 『Seonmunjeongro』. |
