Caozhi(曹植192~232) composed Chinese Buddhist chants during the formative period of the Chinese phoneme, based on ..the Book of Odes: 詩經.. and ..Ch.ci楚辭... The most rigid phoneme period was during the Tang Dynasty, including structures such as the five-seven syllable structure. At that time, phonemic syllable structures and Chinese Buddhist chants flowed into the Korean peninsula. Nowadays the phoneme style of the Middle Ages is still alive in Korea, and are to be found in particular in the Buddhist Beompae chants of Yeongnam province. Korean Buddhist chants adopted their traditions of tone of voice and phoneme from the Tang Dynasty. Jakbeobgukgam(作法龜鑑) was written by the Korean Monk, Beakpa, I was able to discover the same contents in the book Yuanheyunp.(元和韻譜), written by the Chinese monk Ch.zh.ng(處忠) during the Tang dynasty. It heralds from the same age. As a result of this I was able to determine that the melodies of Chinese Buddhist chants were influenced by developments in the Chinese phoneme, and that these also penetrated into Korea. The present day phoneme style of Chinese is different because therush.ng(入聲) which ended a phrase shortly at a words conclusion have been lost. But the rush.ng is still alive in Yeongnam Beompae. because the traditions of the 4 tones of voice of the Tang Dynasty has been upheld in the Yeongnam Beompae. In Yeongnam Beompae there are 4 kind of closing form through all cadence, the first is long-held flat note, the second is rising melody line, the third is falling note, the last is urgent and shortly ending note. Among these closing styles the urgent note form, of which kind of four, was most apt. Three are accompaniment form grace notes, there are two descending notes which form the Menari-jo style, an accompanying embellishment form, and an urgent lip-closing form like the Ho-ong-ah. This last resembles the ¨P;T;TK〃 rush.ng(入聲 ). It has commonality with the Gyeongje style Beompae but in this study reflects only a piece ‥Hal-hyang…. So Further study is required. |
