To fully know about the features of caitasika appeared in the Yogacara School, we must understand the sthaviravada and the sautrantika. mahabhama is the most universal way of the citta which is based on the mano. In other words, mahabhama is an occurrence of citta and caitasika together in a body. kusalaㆍakusalaㆍavyakrta are examples of the citta and the caitasika. vedanaㆍcetanaㆍsamjna ㆍchandaㆍsparsaㆍprajnaㆍsmrtiㆍmanaskaraㆍadhimoksaㆍsamadhi these ten can be found in the AKBh. However the Yogacara School is commonly separated into sarvatraga caitasika and viniyata caitasika. sarvatraga caitasika is manaskaraㆍsparsaㆍvedanaㆍsamjnaㆍcetana and viniyata caitasika is chandaㆍadhimoksaㆍsmrtiㆍsamadhiㆍprajna. These all show completely difference in relation to vijnana. Sarvatraga means that it corresponds and works with any of the eight consciousness. Caitasika, one of the explained above, relates with the eight consciousness in terms of kusala, akusala and that is can happen anywhere and whenever. Hence, sarvatraga is canitasika which fullfills these four standards. Viniyata means that it only applies to certain objects. Chanda, one of caitasika, is desire and a part of virya. adhimoksa is the object of clear cognition, smrti is the object of the past, samadhi and prajna occurs only through deep meditation. These can occur through any of the kusala, akusala and avykrta. However they do not suddenly occur and do not function together with each other. Therefore they only fulfill sarvatra and sarvabhumi out of the four standards. According to the Sthaviravada, cognition created from the association between vijnana and mahabhumika is the factor for psychological symptoms. On the other hand, according to Yogacara School, the current state of mind (accumulation of experiences) alayavijnana is emphasized and bases everything on sarvatraga caitasika, We can conclude that states of mind moves on to anotherstate from psychological effects. Yogacara School emphasizes the active individuality and examines the hidden mental instincts of humans. |
