| 摘要 | 신라불교는 한국고대기의 원류이자 중심에 위치하고 있으며, 신라자장의 계율정립 또한 현대 한국불교 단일계단의 원류라 할 수 있다. 자장에 대한 선행연구는 많았으나 신라자장의 계율행이 현 조계종 단일계단의 수계내용으로 이어짐을 보인 연구는 없었으며, 이러한 연구는 의미 있는 작업이라고 할 수 있다. 한 개인이 승가의 일원이 되려면 반드시 계단에서의 수계의식을 통해서 가능하다. 자장이 수계의식의 근본 도량인 통도사 계단을 창설한 의미는 중요한 것이다. 본고는 조형물로서 계단의 의미보다 통도사 戒壇定礎의 계율행이 현재 단일계단에 면면히 내려오고 있음을 보고자 한다. 자장의 계율활동은 다음과 같이 특징지울 수 있다. 자장은 입당 전 고골관과 五戒, 입당해서는 대승계와 대재의 출가授戒를 하였으며, 귀국후 대승론을 강하고 四衆에게 보살계본을 설했다. 그리고 대국통으로서 반월설계를 시행하고 통도사에 사리와 가사를 봉안한 계단을 정립하였다. 여기서 사중이 존재했음은 대승율에는 없는 구족계가 있었다는 것을 의미하며, 보살계본은 대승계경이다. 그러므로 그 당시 자장은 대소승율을 겸하고 있었던 것이다. 고대신라에서 대소승을 겸수한 바와 같이 현 종단의 단일계단에서도 소승계인 사분율과 대승계인 범망경보살계를 겸수시행하고 있다. 이러한 측면은 자장에서 비롯된 것이다. 당시 자장의 계율정립이 지금의 단일계단으로 이어지고 있음에 의의가 있다고 하겠다. 근래에 들어 대승불교와 더불어 초기불교의 관심이 많아지고 있는데 서로 배타적이 아닌 상호보완의 관계를 유지한다면 종단의 발전에 보탬이 되리라 본다. The Shilla Buddhism is referred to as the source and center of the ancient history of Korea. And Jajang Jeongyul(定律: to decide rules) can be also regarded as the single ordination platform of today``s Korean Buddhism. Despite of many preceding researches on Jajang, studies have not been conducted to verify that Jajang``s Vinaya activities is succeeded by the single ordination platform``s ordination content of the current Jogye Order. Accordingly, attempting to conduct such a research is of great significance academically. This thesis is focused on the Shilla Jajang``s vinaya activities and propagation It is possible for a person to become a member of Sangha only through the ordination ceremony. Therefore, the Tongdo Temple ordination platform, established by Jajang, has an enormous meaning as the basic Bodhi-mandala. I suggest that the current single ordination platform is not so much a historically important structure as, to date, the evidence showing the views of Sila and Vinaya initially expressed through the platform. Jajang``s Vinaya activities may be characterized as three parts: First, contemplating the human skull and the five basic precepts before his stay in Tang. Next, the complete precepts and the ordination ceremony for renunciation of the secular life at the feast given to monks. Finally, preaching on Mahayana argument(大乘論), exposing the Sutra of Bodhisattva Precepts(菩薩戒本) to the fourfold assembly(四衆), giving an exposition of precepts at the end of half month as Chief Abbot of State (大國統) and establishing the ordination platform which enshrined sacred relics and kasaya at the Tongdo Temple. Here, the fourfold assembly represents Upasampada (具足戒: the full precepts) which doesn``t exist in the Mahayana Vinaya, and the Sutra of Bodhisattva Precepts are from the Mahayana Sutra. These facts indicate both the Mahayana and Hinayana Vinaya were practiced. As the Mahayana and the Hinayana were simultaneously practiced in the Ancient Shilla, Dharmagupta(ka)vinaya (四分律) as the Hinayana Sutra and the Sutra of Bodhisattva Precepts (梵網菩薩戒經: 菩薩戒本) as the Mahayana Sutra are simultaneously used in the single ordination platform of the current Order in a similar way. The system has been originated from Shilla Jajang. Based on this, it can be concluded that the content of Jajang Jeongyul has been inherited to today``s single ordination platform. In recent years, the early Buddhism has attracted much attention along with Mahayana Buddhism. Keeping such a trend in mind, maintaining a complementary relation, not an exclusive one, would greatly contribute to the development of our Order. |
