쌍계총림 쌍계사 입지의 풍수환경과 공간구성논리-금당(金堂)을 중심으로=The Environment of Feng shui and the Logic of Spatial Composition in the Location of Ssanggyesa Temple-Focus on the Geumdang(金堂)-
쌍계사는 지리산 자락에 자리하고 있어 아름다운 풍광을 자랑한다. 풍광만큼이나 풍수적 길지에 입지하여 그 아름다움을 빛내는 사찰이다. 이와 같이 산수와 풍광이 어우러진 입지의 특징적인 모습은 전통사찰입지 연구의 필요성을 더욱 드높이는 계기가 되었다. 이는 우리 선조들의 입지선정의 지혜를 확인할 수 있는 좋은 본보기가 된다는 점에서도 연구의 필요성은 크다고 할 것이다. 쌍계사의 입지선정은 창건 당시부터 풍수를 바탕으로 이루어졌으며, 금당을 중심으로 한 西方丈과 東方丈으로 대변되는 참선공간이 가장 핵심적인 입지를 선점하였다. 이는 쌍계사가 선문가람으로 인식되는 특징과도 일치하고 있는데, 가람의 구성에 있어서도 祖師禪脈의 이미지를 갖는 선원 등의 수선공간을 보다 중요하게 취급한 기조와도 일치한다. 이를 통해 풍수가 선종사찰의 입지를 선정하는 오랜 전통으로 자리하였다는 것을 확인시켜 주고 있다. 또한, 공간구성에 있어서도 사찰의 지향점뿐만 아니라 석가모니 부처님의 위상까지를 고려한 배치가 이루어졌다는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 전통사찰입지와 공간구성의 논리를 파악하기 위해서 풍수연구는 필수적이라 할 것이다.
Ssanggyesa Temple is located on the foot of Mt.Jiri which has beautiful scenery. And it is also on a propitious site from the view of Feng shui. The necessity to analyse traditional temple site has been on the rise. Also, it is valuable to clarify the principles of ancestral location selection. The location selection of Ssanggyesa Temple is based on Feng shui. And two symmetrical buildings for Zen-Buddhist meditation with the main building of the temple as the center, which is the crucial space. This is equal to the record that Ssanggyesa is regarded as the Zen sect of Buddhism temple. And its spatial composition also shows the importance of zen meditation. With the location selection of Zen sect of Buddhism temple, Feng shui was an important factor. And from the view of spatial composition, the main building of it was arranged by considering the stature of Buddha. Thus, Feng shui study is necessary to examine traditional temple location and its arrangement.
