This paper attempts to examine how the Buddha treats sickness and death from a practical point of view. In caring for the sick, I would like to examine the metaphor of arrows, focusing on the thesis that the body is sick but the mind does not. I would like to examine the seven factors of enlightenment and the ten perceptions preached by the Buddha for the healing of the sick. You can see recovery from illness in the factors of equanimity of mind and body. In addition, in the ten perceptions, we become aware that it is natural for the body to become sick and there is a possibility of recovery due to the change of matter. In the care of the bereaved family, he preaches to the grandson that everything is dying, and to the mother that all beings die. This shows that all beings have the characteristics of dhammas. To Ananda who sees Sariputra's death, the Buddha preaches “Light your own and Dharma candles”. This shows what attitude the survivor should have. In the end, you should aim to see the characteristics of dhammas in yourself and the place of four establishment of awareness. In the care of the dying, in the case of layman, it is recommended to let go of concerns about the world. And the Buddha asks about the preserving precepts. This is a preparatory measure not to fall on Three evil realms. If you have already done something to regret, provide a way to repent. Repentance can be said to confess and repent for violating the five precepts in the past toward oneself and others, and to confess and repent for the future action with defilement, while at the same time making a determination to move from action with defilement to action without defilement. After the preserving precepts is secured, we look at the characteristics of dhammas to move on to a better place. It presents four establishment of awareness as a concrete way to see the characteristics of dhammas. In the end, the Buddha does not preach something new at the time of death, but consistently and constantly sees the characteristics of the dhammas. Ultimately, even these dhammas should not be the object of obsession. The Buddha uses the time of death as an opportunity to see the characteristics of dhammas. |
