Among Buddhist ideologies, the schools that criticize language the most and use language to lead to enlightenment are the Chinese Zen and the Indian Mādhyamika. Language has dual functions Zen and Mādhyamika. You either attain enlightenment through language or fall into the abyss of pain[samsara]. Humans form concepts and make all judgments through language. In a word, humans identify everything through language. Men make all kinds of judgments, such as right and wrong, by distinguishing between good and bad, and by discussing beauty and ugly things. Humans form concepts and make all judgments through language. The Zen and Mādhyamika use language as an indispensable means of enlightenment, but the methods are different. Both Zen and Mādhyamika aim to dismantle the language(concept, discernment) that is the cause of all suffering. By Mādhyamika breaks through discrimination by deconstructing language through catuṣkoṭi and extinction of prapañca, and Zen through Zen's question and answer and unspeakable. The catuṣkoṭi negation of Mādhyamika divides all the formal systems of human arguable into four categories, and attempts to attain enlightenment by denying them all. As a result, Śūnyatā is obtained by transcending opposition and discrimination. To achieve so-called Nirvana by the extinction of prapañca. Zen Buddhism uses language to cut off the path of language, thereby breaking the consciousness of discernment, and seeing the original mind by breaking the consciousness of discernment. Therefore, unspeakable is liberation from language, and liberation from language is liberation from discernment or idea [concept]. In Zen and Mādhyamika, the function of language has both aspects: suffering (reincarnation) and enlightenment (nirvana). As a result of pushing the highest function and limit of language to the end, Zen and Mādhyamika understood that the basis of all human suffering and peace lies in language, so they tried to eliminate the dysfunction of language and maximize its good function. Therefore, in the practice of Zen and Mādhyamika, the epistemological transformation is more important than the physical aspect. In that sense, enlightenment in Zen and Mādhyamika means an epistemological leap or experience through language. That is Zen and Śūnya.
