| 摘要 | This paper deals with one of the most famous stories in the Uapniṣads. It is related to a spiritual quest for the universal truth. In the story, Upaniṣadic homology between ātmán (microcosm) and brahmán (macrocosm) is the focal point for a brahmacarín-student who pursues a life of searching ultimate reality-to meditate. Related to brahmacarín, brahmacárya is the worshipful life of the student questing for cosmic manifestations of ātmán (microcosm) and brahmán. Our illustration here is Śvetaketu's learning experience. For its bearing on the discipline of brahmacárya, the story of Śvetaketu Āruṇeya in the Chāndogya Uapniṣad (thereafter CU) chapter 6 is treated at some length below. |
