| 摘要 | 본 논문은 『법화경』에 언급된 시방세계(十方世界)를 통해서 붓다의 교설에 담긴 시간과 공간의 의미를 모색함으로써 시방에 담긴 “방향성과 정성적인 특성을 갖춘 동적인 장(場)의 개념”을 알아보고자 함에 목적이 있다. 무한적이고 균질적인 시공(時空)이 인간의 생활과 구체적인 관련성을 찾기에 추상적인 개념이므로, 유한적이고 비균질적인 시공일 때 인간이 이를 지각하는 실존적인 장소(place)가 된다. 따라서 『법화경』에서 묘사된 공간과 장소 그리고 이의 중심(center)과 양상을 파악함으로써, 붓다가 언급한 세계가 추상적이고 모호한 장소가 아니라 실존하는 인간과의 관계를 형성하고 있는 세계(世界)임을 고찰하고자 한다. 시방(十方)은 사방(四方)과 사유(四維), 그리고 상방(上方)과 하방(下方)을 합해서 열 개의 방위를 나타낸다. 여기에 시간을 뜻하는 과거·현재·미래인 삼세(三世)를 통칭해서 전 우주를 의미한다. 대승불교를 대표하는 『법화경』은 이러한 시방세계에 수많은 불(佛)이 편재(遍在)한다고 말한다. 『법화경』에서 시방은 다양한 의미로 묘사되고 있다. 이렇게 다양하게 묘사된 시방은 ‘성스러운 장소’로 ‘세속적인 장소’와 대비되는 곳으로 보인다. 따라서 이러한 공간은 모두 신성화의 대상이 되어 종교적·상징적 장소가 되기도 한다. 『법화경』의 시방은 성(聖)과 속(俗)을 아우르는 상징적인 공간이다. The purpose of this paper is to find out the “concept of a dynamic field with direction and qualitative characteristics” contained in the Ten directions by seeking the meaning of time and space contained in the teachings of Buddha through the ten directions world mentioned in the Lotus Sutra. Since infinite and homogeneous time-space is an abstract concept to find a specific relationship with human life, it becomes an existential place where humans perceive it in finite and inhomogeneous time-space. Therefore, by grasping the space and place depicted in the Lotus Sutra, and the center and aspect of it, we would like to examine that the world mentioned by Buddha is not an abstract and ambiguous place, but a world that forms a relationship with existing humans. Ten directions represents ten directions, including four directions(四方) and four directions(四維), and upper and lower directions. Here, the three worlds, the past, present, and future, which mean time, are collectively referred to as the entire universe. The Lotus Sutra, a representative of Daeseung Buddhism, says that numerous Buddhas are ubiquitous in this speculative world. In Lotus Sutra, Ten directions is described in various meanings. This various description of the ten directions is a “sacred place” and seems to contrast with “secular place.” Therefore, all of these spaces are subject to sanctification and become religious and symbolic places. However, the specification of The Lotus Sutra is a symbolic space that encompasses the castle and the genus. |
