| 摘要 | 불교가 전래된 고대 국가에는 대부분 불교 전래설화가 존재한다. 그러나 각국의 불교 전래설화는 많은 차이점을 내포하고 있는데 그 배경에는 전래 시점, 전래 당시의 사회적 분위기 등이 작용하고 있기 때문이다. 이런 점을 유념해본다면 반대로 최초기 전래설화에는 공통적인 부분이 작동할 수 있다고 볼 수 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 관점에 착안하여 대표적인 고대 불교 국가 가운데 최초기라고 볼 수 있는 국가를 선별하여 가야의 불교 전래설화와 비교한다. 전파루트를 육로와 해로로 나누되, 지리적으로 인도와 가장 가까운 전파국가라는 공통분모가 작동하는 국가인 우전국과 스리랑카를 비교대상으로 하여 가야의 전래설화와 비교한다. 비교를 통해 세 국가에서 공통적으로 발견되고 있는 내용을 통해 가야의 불교 전래설화가 한반도 불교 전래설화의 가장 원형적인 내용을 담고 있다는 점을 밝힌다. 더 나아가 불교가 전래된 이후 전개되는 과정에도 원형적인 모티프로서 가야 불교 전래설화가 작동하고 있음을 밝힌다. 이는 삼국의 불교 전래설화를 바탕으로 이루어진 한국불교 연구에 있어 다른 시각으로 볼 수 있는 여지를 마련할 수 있다는 측면으로 가야 불교 전래설화를 새롭게 조명해 관련연구를 시작하는 논문이다. The ancient countries accepted Buddhism mostly had Buddhist traditional narratives. Those narratives have differences due to the time and the social atmosphere when Buddhism was spread into. On the contrary, the earliest Buddhist countries had more common on the narratives. This study compares Kaya’s Buddhist narrative and those of the earliest Buddhist countries. Khotan and Sri Lanka are selected because they were neighboring India. The difference between the two countries is that Buddhism was spread into those countries in different routes of land and sea. Through the comparison of the three traditional narratives, this study proves that the one of Kaya can be the origin of all the other Buddhist narratives in Korea peninsula. It seems to have been a motif when Buddhism extended its influence over the peninsula. This can give a new point of view to the study of Korea’s Buddhism which have kept the Buddhist narratives of Three Kingdoms as a basis. |
