| 摘要 | This article aims to deliver an important message that despite atrocities prevailing in the conflict-hit society, there would always remain some rays of hope for peace and stability. Abhi Subedi’s Dreams of Māyādevi – a post-conflict narrative, besides bringing out the painful outcome of ten year long Maoist insurgency, has shown Buddhism – a panacea from all grieves and miseries. Nepal, a land of Buddha who preached peace all over the world, suffered from the violent armed conflict for a decade or so. Buddha’s teachings of religion encourage peaceful co-existence in their respective sacred texts and traditions. In doing so, the protracted conflict would enable the world to re-establish equality, brotherhood and non-violence and peaceful settlement would resume after that. Mass displacement, attack on civilian populations, mass losses of homes and belongings, amputations, child soldering and rape had typified in many parts of Nepal. In particular, ethnic and class-based struggles for liberation and power-sharing had been the driving force in the conflict. The prolonged conflict, accumulating stresses and even lack of breathing spaces while keeping in confinement were the norms in war zones. To comfort such hectic and panicked situation, the role of Buddhism would be a medium of panacea. Fortunately, among many other ways, it is mettā, a meditative practice which can help one relieve pain; that Buddhist traditions have developed over thousands of years. Survivors of the conflict can change their minds, views and finally acquire peace themselves. As a result, they can help to engender peace in the world. They can meditate on the negative aspects of human karma like hatred, violence, killing, sexism and all other issues in order to transform themselves and others from these vile experiences and acquire peace. |
