| 摘要 | Sivali Mahathera was born in the Koliyan kingdom which was the maternal house of Gautam Buddha. Sivali remains seven years and seven days in his mother’s womb which gave immense pain to both mother and child. His name is enlisted in the etadagga (the foremost). He was foremost in receiving requisites (food, robes, bowl, medicines, etc). Even Gautam Buddha was carefree on a long and uninhabited journey when Sivali Mahathera was in the journey of the monks. He has completed a long journey of his life from the lifetime of Buddha Padumuttara to Gautam Buddha conducting meritious works. Mahathera is worshipped in different countries even today. Newars of Nepal worship him as the God of wealth and riches. He is worshipped as the greatest fortunate-fetching monk in Thailand. Similarly, Burmese people worship him as a monk of a successful journey. This article focuses on the life, work, legacy, and contribution of Sivali in the propagation of Buddhism. This article solely rests on primary translated texts and commentaries along with some secondary sources. |
