| 摘要 | In Buddhism it is believed that women are equally capable of attaining Nirvana as men. Buddha Himself established Bhikkhuni Sangha in the fifth year of his enlightenment. However, in the long passage of time, the tradition of Bhikkhuni Sangha disappeared from the history. After a decade of void, female Buddhist practitioners are realizing the need of reestablishment of this lost monastic order. This research attempts to remind the glorious tradition of Bhikkhuni Sangha, the exalted expressions of Bhikkhunis in Thērīgāthā and to remind the contemporary female Buddhist practitioners what they can achieve if they could practice Dharma systematically and diligently in monastic environment. The Bhikkhuni Sangha is formally revived but it is far from getting social recognition. It is important to identify how the recognition could be obtained. This research suggests that organizing a Sanghayana may help the Bhikkhuni Sangha attain recognition from the larger society. This study attempts to fulfill this knowledge gap. |
