| 摘要 | Applied Buddhism is the application of Buddhist teachings in daily life. It is also the application of Buddha’s teachings in the several social aspects of life to get the problem solved and minimization of the problem arising thereof. The term Applied Buddhism is also taken to be the synonym with Engaged Buddhism, humanistic Buddhism, Socially engaged Buddhism etc. According to Philip Russell Brown ‘Socially Engaged Buddhism refers to active involvement by Buddhist in society and its problems’’. Buddha’s teachings have been compared as the Ocean comprising the jewels of knowledge. The teachings of Buddha delivered within 45 years in Nepal and northern India and the commentary developed later on comprise valuable knowledge which is able to provide remedy (cure, medicine) to several problems of life. The main teachings are concentrated in the spiritual aspect. But several discourses delivered by Buddha can be seen related to the material aspect of the life too. The main aim of Buddha’s teachings is analysis of suffering. The analysis is done to cease the suffering of the sentient beings. It aims to solve almost all problem of the life. The Four Noble Truth, Dependent Origination, which is the principle of Buddha’s teachings, can be taken as the solutions to the various problems of the life. But merely knowing the theoretical aspect of it is not sufficient. Buddha had emphasized to practice the Dhamma in order to get rid from the problems of life. One should apply the theory into practice to get result in daily life. Hence Buddhism should be applied in daily life to get fruition. Applied Buddhism is making Buddhism relevance with different aspect of life. It is to extract and applying the teachings of Buddha as the remedial measures to different social aspect. Without disrespecting the significance of religious rituals, the myths and beliefs and traditional local ceremonial practices related to Buddhism are however, carefully extracted and excluded from this is domain of ‘Applied Buddhism’. This is intentionally done in order to make the Buddhist ideas more acceptable to people belonging other religious realms and cultural backgrounds. The idea behind this is to enable people practice Buddhism without being converted into a Buddhist. One should understand that Buddhism is not just a religion, but a way of life. There are so many fields of study and principles developed in modern age. Education, Economics, Politics, Sociology, Medical, health and hygiene, Management, Psychology, Ethics etc. are the important field of study. Those fields are disciplines of study to get remedial measures for the worldly problems. The incorporation of Buddha’s teachings to those fields of study could foster the field much more effective to solve the day to day problem. The incorporation of Buddha’s teachings in several fields of study also can be taken as the Applied Buddhism. Hence it is a broad umbrella under which all the essential aspects of life such as physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being as well as philosophical, bio-ethical, financial and modern scientific aspects could be incorporated. Applied Buddhism is also the application of Buddha’s teachings in materialistic development based on spiritual value. The teachings of Buddha also consists several aspects on materialistic development. The blending of it to modern theory not only gives the balanced development but also widened the scope of the Buddhism. Applied Buddhism also includes the Buddhist ideas practiced by the three major schools of Buddhist thoughts in modern era, namely the Theravada, Mahayana and Tantrayana (Tibetan) traditions. Buddhist Meditational practices are importance for prevention of mental illnesses and recommended for incorporation in the regimen of regular psychotherapy and in primary and secondary school curriculum as a part of primordial prevention. It shares valuable information on Buddhist contributions to modern science, |
