| 摘要 | 종교에 있어서 의례의 중요성은 매우 중요하다. 불교의 경우도 마찬가지이다. 한국 불교의 역사 속에서 승려들은 이 점을 중요하게 인식하여 의례를 정비했고, 그것이 현재까지 내려오고 있다. 그런데 한문으로 각종 문서를 작성하던 시대가 끝나고, 한글 시대가 시작되면서 한국 불교계의 의례는 많은 문제에 봉착하게 되었다. 첫째로, 의례와 음악은 밀접한 관계를 맺고 있기 때문에 한문을 한글로 번역하는 것만으로는 문제가 해결되지 않다. 그렇다고 전통을 무시하고 새롭게 한글로 의례문을 제작하는 것도 문제가 있다. 둘째로, 전통적인 의례에는 부처님께 올리는 ‘공양’ 의례가 매우 세련되게 정비되어 있지만, 신도 대중들을 위한 ‘설법’ 의례는 정비되어 있지 않았다. 그런데 현대사회에서 신도 대중을 위한 ‘설법’도 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 전통을 고려하면서 한글 시대에 부합하는 의례의 제작을 실험적으로 시도했다. 그리하여 ‘공양’과 ‘법회’를 동시에 진행할 수 있는 의례를 모색했다. 필자는 전통적으로 내려오는 ‘삼보통청(三寶通請)’을 기본으로 삼고, ‘설법’의 의례를 거기에 첨가하여, 이 모두를 한글화로 구축해보았다. The importance of rituals is tremendous in religion, and Buddhism is no exception. Throughout the history of Korean Buddhism, Buddhist monks who recognized the significance of rituals have adjusted and maintained formalities of Buddhist rituals, which have been maintained up to this day. However, as Hangul has become the common orthography departing from the old custom of using Chinese characters in documents, Korean Buddhism has confronted various problems in its rituals. First of all, since rituals are closely related to music, simply translating Chinese characters into Korean cannot solve the problem. Still, composing new ritual phrases in Korean while discarding the tradition cannot offer a solution either. Secondly, in traditional ceremonies, the ritual of “Offering to Buddha” is carefully organized whereas the practice of “Buddhist Preaching” for the public was not considered a part of the ceremony. Yet, in the Buddhist culture of today’s society, the necessity for “Buddhist Preaching” to the public has arisen. In this essay, I attempt to suggest reforms and rearrangements in rituals that can accord with the needs of this era of Hangul more effectively, while still respecting tradition – a ritual in which both “Offering to Buddha” and “Buddhist Preaching” can be served. Adopting the “Calling on the Three Treasures,” Sambotongcheong” as the basis of the service, the ritual of “Buddhist Preaching” is added, all translated and revised in Korean. |
