| 摘要 | In the second half of Nineteenth Century, France began to perform several military assaults in Southeast and East Asia. With the collaboration with United Kingdom, France held wars with China and with Vietnam at the same time. Those wars were prelude of French colonization in Indochina Peninsula. Vietnamese Emperor Tu Duc recognized his failure and yield Cochinchina to France with the Philastre Treaty. France thus founded its first base in Southeast Asia and continued to go north. France also gained a concession in Hanoi one year after the Philastre Treaty. Then the French Union Indochinois was founded in 1887. The Union Indochinois included Tonkin, Annam, Cochinchina, and the Kingdom of Cambodia, then years after, Lao joined the Union, and made the Union of five provinces. In the end of Nineteenth Century, After having founded the Union Indochinois, France began a new management policy. After the First World War, in order to use efficiently the land in cities and exert their functions, French Colonial Government proceeded series of work on urban space. Ernest Michel Hébrard as a well-trained architect with laureate of Grand Prix de Rome, was employed to Indochina for “sanitizing” and “beautifying” cities in this Far-eastern colony. In between 1921 and 1926, while his stay in Indochina, Hébrard established some governmental units in charge of architecture and urban planning problems. He finished in these five years the plans of Hanoi, Saigon, Dalat Haiphong and Phnom Penh. These five cities are mayor cities in Union Indochinois, each one has its own mission for this colony. The plans of Hébrard show his special method on planning, which is represented on their spatial structures and aspects. This is the mayor issue of this paper. |
