| 摘要 | 본 논문은 보조의 선사상 중 간화선에 대한 부분을 조망한 것으로, 간화선의 성격과 현대적 의의에 대하여 크게 네 가지로 나누어 살펴보았다. 첫째, 보조의 간화선은 어떠한 배경에서 주창되었는가? 둘째, 보조선의 체제 내에서 간화선은 어떠한 위상을 지니는가? 셋째, 보조와 성철의 간화선 이해에는 어떠한 차이가 존재하는가? 넷째, 현대에 있어 보조 간화선이 가지는 의의는 무엇인가? 이러한 문제제기 아래 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 보조에게 있어 간화선의 유입은 자신의 수행 상에 나타난 정견(情見)의 병통을 제거하기 위한 목적에서 이루어졌다. 이는 당시 중국에서 유행하고 있던 대혜의 간화선을 종파적인 입장에서 수용한 것이 아니라 주체적이고 실존적으로 받아들였음을 의미한다. 둘째, 보조선의 체계 내에서 간화선은 돈오점수의 수행 상에 나타나는 지해의 병통을 제거하기 위한 효과적인 수행법으로서 자리함과 동시에 선문의 상근기가 가장 빨리 구경각에 도달할 수 있는 깨달음으로 자리매김하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 돈오점수, 원돈신해의 수행법을 배격하고 있지 않음을 볼 수 있다. 셋째, 지눌과 성철 모두 간화선이 최고로 수승한 수행법이며, 교외별전인 선종의 수행법이라 보고 있다. 또한 돈오점수의 수행법이 지해의 병통에 빠지기 쉽다는 점도 똑같이 인식한다. 그런데 성철이 돈오점수를 철저히 배격하는 반면 지눌은 돈오점수의 수행을 배제하지 않는다. 오히려 돈오점수를 기본적인 수행법으로 세워 놓고 그 병통의 치유법으로 간화선을 활용하고 있다. 상근기의 경우는 곧장 간화선을 수행하여 구경각에 이를 수 있음도 말하고 있다. 이점이 보조와 성철이 간화선을 대하는 가장 큰 차이라고 할 수 있다. 넷째, 보조선에 있어서 수행의 기초는 마음이며, 깨달음의 방법은 회광반조와 간화선에 있다. 이는 조사선과 간화선의 전통을 계승하고 있는 것으로 현재에도 여전히 선수행의 토대로서 작용하고 있다. In this paper, I looked into Bojo's Ganhwa-Seon(看話禪), a part of his Seon thought, about its characteristic and modern significance. First, What is the background of the advocacy of Bojo's Ganhwa-Seon?Which position does Ganhwa-Seon gave within the system of Bojo's Seon?Are there ant differences between Bojo and Seongcheol in the viewpoint of understanding about Ganhwa-Seon?What is the significance of Bojo's Ganhwa-Seon in modern society?I drew there following conclusion about these questions. First, Bojo accepted Ganhwa-Seon to remove the trouble of intellectual understanding exposed in his practice. Daehyea's Ganhwa-Seon is prevalent in China at that time. It means that he did not accept Daehyea's Ganhwa-Seon as a sectarian stand-point but subjective and existent. Second, in Bojo's system, Ganhwa-Seon was situated as an effective method of practice to remove the trouble in intellectual understanding showed in the practice of sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation. And also Ganhwa-Seon was situated as a method to achieve the supreme enlightenment fastest to the trainee of high level practicing Seon. Nevertheless we can see that Bojo didn't reject the method of practice of sudden enlighten-ment and gradual cultivation and Avatamska. Third, Bojo and Seongcheol regarded Ganhwa-Seon as the best method of practice in Seon-sect. And they also recognized that it is easy to fall into the trouble of intellectual understanding in the practice of sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation. In that point, Seongcheol rejected throughly the practice of sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation. But Bojo did not reject that practice. On the contrary, Bojo set up the practice as a basic practice and applied Ganhwa-Seon to cure the practice of sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation in the case of the trainee of high level, Bojo said that they could achieve the supreme enlightenment without delay. This point is the biggest difference between Bojo and Seongcheol about Ganhwa-Seon. Fourth, in the standpoint of Bojo's Seon, the mind is the basic of practice and the method of enlightenment is Hoikwang-banjo(廻光返照) and Ganhwa -Seon. It is to succeed the tradition of Josa-Seon(祖師禪) and Ganhwa-Seon. And that have acted an the foundation of the practicing Seon even now. |
