The Pilgrim’s progress, the children’s best primer in the west, and Pilgrimage to the west, one of the four Chinese classics, created a mythic world in medieval times in China and in the West respectively. This article intends to explore the differences between these two novels through the differences in motivations of the protagonists, the authors’ different attitude towards the rising classes, and the differences in writing styles so as to get a better understanding of these two novels.
