| 摘要 | Every religion needs faithful, caring, and soul-called disciple to spread their religious teachings, and have good competence to carry out the task. The effort to spread religion is known as missionary. Every religion has its own understanding of religious missionaries. In Buddhism, missionaries are called Dharmaduta. Compared to other religious followers, Buddhists are known to be less aggressive in spreading their religious teachings. This paper aims to explain the principles of missionary in the Buddhist perspective, the competencies required to be missionaries, and the benefits of Buddhist missionaries. The method used is the interpretation of the text in the scriptures Tripitaka and various studies. The expected benefit is that it can serve as a guide for Buddhists to perform Buddhist missionary duties. The Buddha and his disciples are missionaries who model the Buddhist missionaries at all times. Buddhism has a missionary principle of spreading the doctrine lovingly for the welfare and happiness of all beings. To carry out missionary duties requires appropriate competence so that the teachings can be delivered properly and can be understood well by the recipients of the teachings. Buddhist missionary efforts will benefit both the teacher and the recipient of the teachings. |
