| 摘要 | The focus of this research related to social phenomena: merger of non-Buddhists as volunteers of Tzu Chi Foundation in Indonesia. Researcher studied factors that encourage non-Buddhists join as Tzu Chi volunteers, especially in Jakarta and Tangerang. This study used a qualitative method with phenomenological approach. A total of six non-Buddhist volunteers from various professions and religions have been selected as the research informants. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation and then be analyzed with a model of Miles and Huberman. Credibility of the process data carried out using triangulation, discussions with colleagues, as well as by member check. Factors that encourage non-Buddhists join Tzu Chi Foundation grouped into internal factors and external factors. The results of this study indicated that internal factors, namely: eager to social activities, find the right time to undertake social activities, and open-minded. External factors that affect consist of: the example of the mother done, offered by employer, supports from wife, initially being employee of Tzu Chi, motivated after seeing a lot of old people who participated, family supports, call-to-friend, similarity teachings of Master Cheng Yen to the beliefs held by volunteer, and due to watching DAAI TV. In addition, the volunteers joined the Tzu Chi Foundation because Tzu Chi has excellences compared to other social organizations, namely: implement tolerance, teach universal values, does not distinguish between beneficiaries, familiarize vegetarian, respect others, cultivate true love, apply the human values/humanistic culture, cross-religion, cross-ethnicity, cross-race, there was a special-visit of love after healing process, eguality of gender, assimilation, teach grateful, its vision and mission of organisation is straight, well-organized, consistent, its activities truly universal for the sake of humanity, does not affect to convert religions, teach wisdom and virtue. Tzu Chi Foundation in Indonesia also influenced by Master Cheng Yen, the leader of Tzu Chi that is very authoritative, charismatic, unselfish and has futuristic point of view. The Master is able to transform the Buddha teachings in daily life. |
