The "Buddhist New Youth" refers to a group of young reformists emerging in the 1920s in the Buddhist community, whose aim was to reform the old Buddhism and create a new Buddhism by absorbing Western culture and practicing it on the basis of Buddhist doctrines. They advocated and acknowledged the New Culture, and meanwhile criticized and synthesized it with Buddhist doctrines. The new Buddhist theory of the Buddhist New Youth, both radical and conservative, has its own cultural value in spite of imperfections. For nearly a century, the biggest question in the cultural field in China has always been how to establish a new cultural system that embodies both Chinese and Western cultures and fosters the modernization and the progress of the nation. Therefore, it is necessary for the people today to draw lessons from different fields.
