| 摘要 | 본 연구는 붓다의 傳法宣言을 通時的 시각으로 분석하여 오늘날 한국불교에서 포교의 근본정신을 회복시키는데 이바지 하고자 함에 있다. 포교를 실천하는 것은 많은 사람들에게 ‘행복과 이익’의 기회를 제공하는 자비행이다. 그동안 간과하기 쉬웠던 전법선언을 포교적 측면에서 재조명하여, 정신적․사상적인 면을 고찰하여 포교의 질적 향상 뿐 만 아니라 양적 배가운동에 이르기까지 실천적 방향을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 본 글에서는 붓다의 전법선언 내용을 네 부분으로 나누어 분석하였다. 첫째 부분은 전법사의 자격에 대해서 이고 둘째 부분은 전법의 목적과 정신을 밝힌 것으로 많은 고통 속에서 헤매고 있는 중생들에 대한 사랑과 연민을 실천하고자 하는 것이며, 한 사람이라도 더 많이 전도하라는 것이다. 셋째 부분은 전법의 실천의지와 설법의 이상적인 양상을 제시한 것으로서 그 내용과 형식에 있어서도 올바르며 체계성을 갖추라는 것이다. 넷째 부분은 전법사들의 스승으로서의 붓다의 실천 의지를 보여주는 것으로 모든 제자들에게 모범을 보이신 부분이다. 이러한 내용들에 대하여 전법에 대한 것과 의미를 율장과 초기경전의 원전을 통하여 살펴보았다. 또한 전법의 원론이 될 불교사상의 특징을 人間絶對肯定의 사상, 生命尊重의 思想, 環境保存의 사상, 그리고 보편적 사유의 價値觀 정립 등으로 요약해 보았다. 이를 통해 불교 전법의 목적은 ‘모든 衆生의 利益과 安樂’을 실천하는 성스러운 慈悲行이며 同時에 智慧行이라고 보았다. 전법 혹은 포교를 실천하는 전법사 또는 포교사는 모든 중생을 깨달음의 길로 인도하려는 願을 세워야 한다. 이에 대한 예로 고통 받는 육도 중생들을 모두 구원하고 말겠다는 지장보살의 大願力을 살펴보았다. 다음으로 전도를 담당할 전법사〔포교사〕의 자격을 살펴보았다. 전법사는 몸과 마음을 닦고 수련하여 인격을 고양시켜야 하며, 이를 위해서는 체계적인 법사교육이 필요하다고 인식 하였다. 향후 본 논의를 통해 밝혀진 내용을 토대로 현대인에게 알맞은 傳法方法을 새롭게 연구․개발하여 불교도의 질적․양적인 성장을 가져오는 계기가 되었으면 한다. 합리적이면서도 적극적인 전법활동을 하는 것이야말로 중생들의 고통은 덜어주고 즐거움은 더하면서, 많은 이들의 ‘이익과 안락’을 위하는 지름길이라 보았다. 그러므로 양질의 전법사〔포교사〕를 많이 배출하는 것이 곧, 붓다의 전법선언 정신 함양에 부합하는 일이 될 것이다. The purpose of this study is to analyze Buddha's ‘Sacred Preaching Declaration (傳法宣言)’, so that it may contribute to restoring fundamental spirit of Buddhist propagation initiated by our contemporary Korean Buddhist world. The practice of Buddhist propagation means action of benevolence that gives a good chance for many people to share ‘happiness and benefit.’ So this study intended to re-highlight the Sacred Teaching Declaration, which has been likely overlooked so far, in the aspect of Buddhist propagation, and consider its spiritual and ideological aspects, so that it could explore into possible practical orientation of said Declaration toward quantifiable growth movement as well as better quality of Buddhist propagation. First, this study classified Buddha's Sacred Teaching Declaration broadly into 3 major parts of content for the purpose of analysis. Part 1 manifests the spirit of Buddhist preaching, which aims to practice love and mercy for mankind roving in many sufferings, and to give Buddhist preaching to even one and more persons. Part 2 suggests ideal aspects of Buddhist preaching in order to establish right and systematic Buddhist preaching in the aspect of content and form. Part 3 demonstrates Buddha's will of practice to his all disciples. This part deals with the content and significance of Buddhist preaching as well as its canonical grounds. And this study outlined the characteristics of Buddhist thoughts as principles of Buddhist preaching, such as absolute affirmation of mankind, respect for life, environmental conservation and establishment of values in universal speculation. Thus, this study came to a conclusion that Buddhist preaching aims at action of sacred benev』olence to practice ‘the benefit and comfort of all the people’ and also aims at action of wisdom. It is required that Buddhist preachers or propagators who practice Buddhist teachings should set their ultimate aspiration on leading all the people into the way of awakening. For instance, this study addressed Jijang Bosal's grand aspiration (大願力) with a view to saving all the six worlds of living beings. Next, this study dealt with qualifications for Buddhist preacher or propagator responsible for the transmission of Buddhist preaching. As a result, it was found that Buddhist preachers or propagators must cultivate and train their body and mind, and enhance their personality, while it is necessary to educate priests or practitioners in formulated manner for such qualification. Hopefully, it is expected that the findings of this study will be a basis for giving a chance to research and develop new ways of Buddhist transmission fit for our contemporaries for quantifiable and qualitative Buddhist growth in the future.
