| 摘要 | 이 논문은 언론매체의 학술 의제 설정 과정에서 나타나는 부작용과 문제점을 불교계 신문의 사례를 중심으로 비판적으로 연구한 것이다. 최근 언론매체의 급속한 확장과 인문학의 대중화 기류로 말미암아 난해한 학술 의제들이 별다른 여과 없이 언론을 통해 퍼져나감으로써 그 부작용이 만만치 않다. 특히 불교학은 종교영역을 다루는 학문적 특성상 이러한 문제점에 더욱 많이 노출되어 있다. 본 논문에서는 불교계 신문인 <법보신문>에서 기사화한 니까야 친설 논쟁, 마음챙김 논쟁, 그리고 불교 영어와 관련된 문제를 다루었다. 본 연구를 통해 학술적 주제가 언론매체를 통해 기사화되는 과정에서 적지 않은 한계와 문제점이 노출된다는 것을 확인하였다. 그렇지만 무리한 의제 설정은 성급하고 불필요한 논쟁으로 진행됨으로써, 학술 연구자들로 하여금 자괴감을 느끼게 하는 결과를 가져온다. 학술 연구자들은 대개 언론매체가 어떤 동기를 가지고 어떤 방식으로 작동하는지에 대해 관심을 두지 않는다. 특히 인문학이나 종교분야의 학술의제는 학술적 전문성 이외에 다른 요소들이 작동함으로써, 관련 분야 연구자들은 자신의 연구결과가 기사화되는 과정에서 뜻하지 않게 논쟁에 휘말리기도 한다. 언론매체, 특히 종교분야 언론매체는 학술의제를 설정하는 과정에서 깊은 주의가 요구된다고 하겠다. This paper sketches the side effects and problems of the scholarly agenda-setting in the Buddhist journal. Abstruse scholarly agendas, without filtration process, spread through the media, because of the rapid expansion of the press and humanities popularization. Especially, Buddhist studies deals with a branch of religion, these problems are exposed more often. Recently Buddhist newspaper agendas were the nikāya authenticity debate, mindfulness debate, english notation problem of Buddhist concept. These scholarly issues were incorrectly reported as many shows in the Buddhist press. And academic researchers feel despair, because of unnecessary controversy and unprofessional reports in the press. Academic researchers do not interest in the press works or it's ulterior motives. So their research results are caught up in the unexpected controversy, in the process of being published in the media. These media environment is worrisome. If the scholarly agenda-setting is not careful in news media, academia is shrinking up. And this might hold back the academic progress. |
