| 摘要 | 『석보상절(釋譜詳節)』은 한글로 기록된 최초의 불서(佛書)이다. 지금까지는 ‘최초의 한글’ 문헌이라는 점에서 주로 국어학와 국문학계에서 깊은 관심을 가지고, 그 분야에서 많은 연구가 이루어져왔다. 또한, 내용상으로 보면, 한글로 기록된 최초의 석존의 생애 기록[釋譜]이라는 점에서 불교학적으로 매우 중요한 의미가 있다. 특히 중국의 『석가보』나 『석가씨보』와 달리, 석존의 생애와 더불어 『약사경』, 『지장경』, 『법화경』 등 여러 대승 경전이 전체 혹은 일부가 번역되고 협주까지 있어서, 조선 초 당시에 불교학의 경향과 수준을 가늠할 수 있는 중요한 자료이기도 하다. 그러나 현재까지 여기에 대한 불교학적 연구는 극히 제한적이었다. 조선시대 불전언해와 관련된 이봉춘교수(1980)의 연구 이후에 조금도 진척이 없었다는 점에서 불교학계의 깊은 반성이 필요한 시점이기도 하다. 이에 불교학술원에서 진행하고 있는 ‘『석보상절』불교주해 편찬 사업’은 『석상』에 대한 불교학적 연구를 진작시키는 계기가 된다는 점에서 중요한 의미가 있다. 기존 『석상』역주서의 불교주해에서는 불교용어에 대한 단편적 풀이 정도에 그치며, 그나마 잘못된 정보를 제공하는 경우도 종종 있다. 따라서 『석상』번역의 불교학적 정확성 검토라든가, 『석상』의 내용에 대한 불교학적 해설과 이설(異說)에 대한 불교학적인 비교 검토 등은 전혀 기대할 수 없는 실정이었다. 이러한 상황에서 『석상』에 대한 불교주해는 『석상』에 관한 모든 불교학적 연구에 있어서 가장 선행되어야할 필수적인 작업이라 할 수 있다. 본 불교주해 작업은 『석상』의 저경 확인, 저경 원문과의 대조, 번역의 정확성 검토, 불교용어의 폭넓은 해설 등 심도 있는 불교학적 주석을 통하여 『석상』의 내용을 보다 깊고 정확하게 이해하는 데에 기여할 것이라고 생각한다. 이것은 또한 『석상』에 대한 불교학적 연구를 촉진할 뿐 아니라, 『월인석보』나 기타 불경 언해본에 대한 불교학적 연구로 나아가는 초석(礎石)이 되어줄 것이라고 생각한다. Seokbosangjeol (釋譜詳節) is the first Buddhist text written in Hangeul after promulgation of Hangeul by the Great King Sejong. There have been much researches on Seokbosangjeol in Korean linguistics because it is the beginning model of translation Chinese character into Hangeul. The word of “Seokbo” means the life and family of Shakamuni-Buddha. But in Seokbosangjeol there are more contents such as the whole or partly translations and annotations of Mahayana sutras like Lotus-sutra (法華經), Ksitigarbha pranidhana-sutra (地藏經) etc.. So it is also very important that shows the level of the Buddhist studies in the early Joseon Dynasty. Nevertheless, it is scarcely possible to find the researches on Seokbosangjeol in Buddhist studies. And looking at the copies of translation with notes on Seokbosangjeol aiready published, there are much incorret on Buddhist notes and short of Buddhist annotations. In this paper, I have introduced the compilation of Buddhist annotations on Seokbosangjeol and sum up the points of this project; confirmation of base-sutra (底經), review of accuracy in translation, comments on Buddhist terms in Seokbosangjeol etc.. In short, it would be an wide and in-depth Buddhist annotations which we had never seen before. And the project of Buddhist annotations on Seokbosangjeol would be essential work to be the most advanced in every Buddhist studies on Seokbosangjeol. |
