It was intended to find a direct connection point between Goryeo, Xixia, and Uyiγur Buddhist art in the network and administrative organization built by the yuan empire. Some icons of Goryeo Buddhist paintings, which are called the essence of East Asian Buddhist paintings, can be found identical or similar icons in Xixia or Yuan Buddhist paintings. A lot of research has been done on this, and as a result, it is considered to be due to the possibility of human traffic or the exchange and distribution of prints. In this study, the distribution and settlement of related icons was not seen as individual exchanges between people, but in a planned and organized network under the rule of the Yuan empire. First, after unification, the Yuan embraced the monks of the Xixia and the Uyiγurs and incorporated them into the government's administrative organization, and served as a strong supporter of Buddhism in the Yuan imperial family, giving strength to the spread of Buddhism. In addition, 仁宗 established a government office called ‘梵像提擧司’ in 1316 in the year of 延祐三年, dividing artisans of colored wood into five official positions to systematically manage them, and allowed Buddhist temples and wood carving craftsmen to participate in various Buddhist rituals. It is believed that the Buddhist monks or Buddhist monks of the Xixia and Uyiγurs were incorporated into the artisans of this color tree. Also, among the ‘帝師’ that can be compared to the power of the emperor, monks from the Xixia and Uyiγurs were included, so it was considered that the Buddhist art of the Xixia and Uyiγurs was gathered and transmitted to Goryeo through the Yuan ruling system. |
