| 摘要 | Buddhist literature contains not only Buddhist teachings, but also information of other aspects of cultures. One important scope is the medical knowledge in various cultures. This paper aims to explore the medical material of ancient India as recorded in the different versions of the Chapter on Medicine (CM) of the Chinese Vinayapiṭakas, and attempts to understand what those diseases and treatments were. It also serves to provide new medical information in those unexplored CMs for scholars of Buddhist medicine and the history of Indian medicine. Five Chinese versions of the CM are extant in the Dharmaguptaka, Mahīśāsaka, Sarvāstivāda, Mūlasarvāstivāda, and Mahāsāṃghika Vinayas, and they are the sources for this study. Diseases and their treatments found in these CMs are grouped and narrated, and then explained with the help of other Buddhist texts and exegeses, dictionaries, traditional Indian medical treaties and modern Āyurvedic works. Illnesses, together with their remedies, include autumnal disease, wind diseases, disorder of phlegm humour/water element, fever, gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, poisoning and snakebite, skin diseases, eye problems, perineal diseases, foot ailments, and insanity. Further research should include medical data preserved in other parts and other versions of the Vinayapiṭakas, so as to provide a comprehensive study of Buddhist medicine in the Vinayapiṭakas. |
