| 摘要 | 호암 인환은 21세기 한국 현대불교의 대표적 인물가운데 한사람이다. 그는 부산 선암사에서 원허 효선과 석암 혜수를 스승으로 출가하였다. 수행력과 덕화가 높았던 스승과의 인연은 인환이 평생을 수행자로 살아가는데 이정표 역할을 했다. 그는 출가 이후 통도사와 해인사에서 교학을 공부했고, 운허 용하와 함께 한국 최초의 불교사전을 편찬하기도 했다. 오대산 적멸보궁에서 수행할 때는 참선과 기도 등을 통해 자신의 수행력을 재발견하고 향상시키기도 하였다. 일본 고마자와 대학과 동경대에서 공부하고 박사학위를 받고 나서는 한국불교학의 현실과 발전을 위해 고민하기도 했다. 인환은 캐나다를 비롯한 미국 등에서 한국교포를 대상으로 활발한 포교활동을 전개하였다. 조국으로 돌아가기 보다는 국제포교를 통해 한국불교를 널리 알리고자 하였던 것이다. 참선수행과 대승경전을 중심으로 한 그의 포교활동은 교포들에게 자긍심과 함께 불교가 지닌 의미를 되새기는 계기를 마련해주었다. 귀국 후 인환은 동국대학교 교수와 정각원장을 역임하기도 하였다. 퇴임 후 인환은 전국을 다니면서 일반대중을 상대로 참선수행과 교학을 가르치기도 하였다. 인환은 평생을 수행자로 살다가 수행자로 갔다. Hoam inhwan is one of the representative figures of Korean modern Buddhism in the 21st century. He became a monk as a disciple of Wonheo Hyo-sun and Seok-am Hye-su at Sunam Temple in Busan. The relationship with the teacher, who had high performance and virtue, served as a milestone for Inhwan's life as a monk. He studied teaching at Tongdo Temple and Haein Temple after monk, and also compiled the first Buddhist dictionary in Korea with Unhe Yong-ha. When performing in the Odaesan Destruction Palace(五臺山 寂滅寶宮), he also improved his performance through meditation and prayer. After studying at Komazawa University and Tokyo University in Japan and receiving a Ph.D., he also worried about the reality and development of Korean Buddhism. Inhwan has actively engaged in missionary work with Koreans in Canada and the United States. His missionary work, centered on the true martial arts and the Buddhist scriptures, provided a chance for Koreans to reflect on Buddhism's meaning. After returning to Korea, Inhwan served as professor of Dongguk University and Jeong Kak-won. After his retirement, Inhwan traveled all over the country to teach the true martial arts and the Buddhist scriptures. Inhwan lived as a monk for the rest of his life, then went as a monk. |
