This paper carries the topic that literary noblemen(文人士大夫) and buddhist(佛僧) interrelate through the exchange of poems in the era of King Seon Jo(宣祖) and Kwang Hae Gun(光海君). Especially, It is focused on how they interrelated through the literary works related with monks written by the typical writer Lee Jeong Gu(李廷龜) and the poet Lee Ann Nul(李安訥) at the era of the King Seon Jo and Kwanghae Gun. Noblemen excluded monks as the heretics while they were insisting the theory of Juja’s Neo - Confucianism(朱子性理學) that they must more study the Confucianism than Buddhism. At the same time, they forced them to participate to public works and works. They even imposed them to pay a tribute such as paper. Therefore, there was never the friendship between noblemen and monks who were treated humbly. However, the relationship between them was reformed through Japanese Invasion of Korea(壬辰倭亂) in 1592. Because the Uiseungjang(義僧將) the monk who fights against to Japanese invasion) such as Seosan(西山) and Samyung(四溟) repelled the Japanese army. They also made many efforts at restoring their homeland. Then, noblemen treated them tolerantly. Particularly, they give and take some poems with the intelligent monks or the monks who wrote poems very well. Meanwhile, this era is called ‘Literary Generation’ when many writers and poets emerged such as Samdag(三唐), Sadaega(四大家), Leejae(二才). But their literary works that had been given to monks were discovered more easily than those that had discovered before. That means the noblemen and monks improved their relationship through exchanging their works. Therefore, this manuscript has an eye this point and carries the literary works of Lee Jeong Gu(李廷龜) and Lee Ann Nul(李安訥). Lee Jeong Gu didn’t exclude and indulge in Buddhism. But He always met prominent monks who wrote poems very well. He also had a good friendship with Seosan, Samyung, Chungmae(靑梅), Ssangik(雙翼) who they had been the Uiseungjang(義僧將) in Japanese Invasion of Korea.(壬辰倭亂) Especially, he respected their personality. Then, He inscribed a Seosan’s epitaph, met Samyung to give him a poem and write a preface to Chungmae’s works. He also wrote some poems out of pity monks who had tried to restore their country. His works is dealt with things related to monks and is estimated about 300 works. We can easily understand about friendship between he and monks through his works’ meaning. He especially got along with HeeAnn(希安), SueCho(守初), Chungwhee(沖徽). We can know that he was kind to them tolerantly through his wo |
