摘要
본 글에서는 신도교육과 신도조직에 대한 실태와 문제점, 그리고 그 대안을 모색하였다. 신도교육과 조직은 현대에 들어 사찰을 유지하고 발전시키는데 매우 커다란 동력으로 작용하고 있으며 갈수록 그 중요성이 증대되고 있다. 신도교육은 사람들을 건강하고 신심 있는 불자로 만드는데 기여할 뿐만 아니라 사찰이나 종단의 역량을 강화시키고 발전을 도모하는데 실질적인 역할을 한다. 다시 말해서 신도교육은 작게는 신도의 삶의 질을 변화시키고, 생각과 태도, 가치관을 부처님 가르침대로 전환하도록 촉진시킬 뿐만 아니라 사찰이나 종단의 신도수 증가에 크게 기여를 한다. 신도조직은 신도들이 소속감과 정체성을 갖고 사찰을 중심으로 공동체 네트워크를 구축하는 과정이다. 그것은 신행·교육·수행·실천을 비롯해서 대사회적 활동 등을 통합하는 신도공동체인 것이다. 이러한 신도조직을 통해 신도 개개인은 인격적, 종교적 성숙은 물론 보살도를 실천하는 구체적인 활동을 하게 되고 사찰의 역량 또한 강화시킨다. 그리고 주지스님은 이러한 신도조직을 통하여 과중한 업무에서 벗어나 수행과 법문에만 매진할 수 있게 된다. 그런데 신도교육과 조직이 잘 이루어져 사찰을 발전시키고 있기는 하지만 개선해야 될 점도 적지 않다. 신도교육의 측면에서 불교를 체계적으로, 그리고 제대로 알려주어야 한다는 과제에 직면해 있다. 교육지도자나, 교육환경, 교과목과 프로그램에서 개선해야 할 점이 산재해 있다. 그리고 새신도 교육과 관리 프로그램 또한 절실히 요구된다. 신도조직적 측면에서 중대형 사찰을 제외하고는 아직도 대부분의 사찰에서는 신도조직과 관리가 제대로 이루어지지 않고 있는 실정이다. 이제는 신도조직을 통해서 신도들에게 사찰의 주인으로서 역할을 부여해 주어야 한다. 주지스님 일방의 결정에 의해서 사찰이 더 이상 유지, 발전될 수 없다는 점을 명심해야 한다는 것이다. 그리고 불교신도들 중에는 정서상 조직 활동을 꺼려하는 사람들이 많다 는 점 또한 고려해야 한다. 불자들이 기독교인과는 달리 내면의 자유를 추구하고 개인생활을 중시하다 보니 조직에 얽매이는 것을 싫어한다는 것이다. 그래서 앞으로는 이러한 불자들의 특성을 고려하면서 신도조직을 탄력성 있게 구성해 나가야 할 것이다. 그리고 체계적인 신도교육과 조직을 구축하기 위해서 신도 품계를 두는 제도를 조심스럽게 시행해 나가야 할 과제 또한 안고 있다.
This paper tried to grope for the actual condition, a problem and an alternative plan of the lay devotee education and the lay devotee organization. The lay devotee education and organization is the largest power to maintain and expand the temple of the day. And Its importance is also becoming bigger. The lay devotee education makes people healthy and devout lay devotee, plays an real role for strengthening ability of the temple, a religious order and devising an development. That is to say, It improves the quality of life for the lay devotees, makes their thought, an attitude, values promote to turn as following the Dharma of Buddha and goes far toward increasing the number of the lay devotee in temples. The lay devotee organization is the process both having the lay devotees a sense of belonging and identity and constructing a community network with temples as the central. It is a lay devotee community integrating social activities as well as being in charge of his or her education, training, practice. Through the lay devotee organization, Each of the lay devotees bring his or their personal and religious maturity and make concrete activities for practicing the path of Bodhisattva. And the chief abbot gets out of a burdensome task through the lay devotee organization, is able to be strived for the spiritual practice and teaching of dharma. Although the lay devotee education and organization is well done up to now, keeps developing, there are problems to improve. In the lay devotee education aspect, temples are facing with an important problem for initiating the systematic and exact knowledge of buddhism. Furthermore, there are a lot of tasks to improve in the leader of education, education environment, education subject, program. And First of all, a new devotee education and management program are required. In the lay devotee organization aspect, most of temples are insufficient about the education and management of the lay devotee except large-sized temples. From now on, they have to grant the lay devotees a role as the owner of temples through the lay devotee education and organization. Temples aren't able to be developed and maintained anymore by one-sided decision of abbot. Some of the lay devotees are reluctant to do an organized activities. They don't dislike to be bound by a organization because the lay devotees pursue their own inner freedom, regard the practice of their own religion as important. Accordingly, above-mentioned respects should also be considered and the lay devotee organization has to be constituted with flexibility. At the end, in order to construct a systematic the lay devotee education and organization, there is remaining task to get started on the system of the lay devotee's grade.
