| 摘要 | 당나라시대 선종의 확산은 당시 불교 학승들의 주목을 끌기에 충분했다. 그 인물로 우리는 청량 징관 (淸凉澄觀) 을 꼽을 수 있다. 그는 당시 선종의 학설을 경전 해석의 전통 속에서 총체적으로 평가했는데, 이런 그의 작업은 그의 제자 규봉 종밀 (圭峰宗密) 에게도 이어진다. 필자는 이 점에 주목하면서 종밀 당시에 유통되던 선종의 문헌자료 와, 그 자료에 대한 종밀의 이해와, 이 두 사이의 일치여부를 문헌적으로 비교하여 학계에 보고한 바 있다. 그것도 비판적으로 말이다. 본 논문에서는 그 보고를 바탕으 로, 필자는 당시의 선종 학설을 평가하는 종밀의 ‘철학적 입장’을 분석했다. 그 결과, 종밀이 인간의 내면에 선험적으로 구성된 도덕성의 실재를 전제하고 있음을 확인했 다. 이런 전제를 확인한 필자는 종밀이 주장하는 선험적 도덕성의 실재를 ‘변증의 방법 (demonstrating method) ’으로 논증을 시도했다. 그 과정에서 필자는 교리 체계를 공유하는 상대와 공유하지 않는 상대로 두 경우로 나누었다. 공유하는 상대에 대해서는 『대승기신론』의 교리를 근거로 논증했고, 공유하지 않는 상대에 대해서는 ‘경험적 효과성(empircal-effectiveness) ’ 개념을 도입하여 논증했다. The expansion of the Zen sect of Buddhism during the Tang Dynasty drew much attention from many Buddhist scholars of the time. For example, Qingliang Chengguan (淸凉澄觀; 738∼839) appraised the theories of the Zen sect in the analytic tradition of scripture interpretation, and his research was carried on by his disciple Guifeng Zongmi (圭峰宗密; 780∼841) . Already some time ago, I published an analysis that compares the texts of the Zen sect from Zomgmi’s time and Zongmi’s own understanding of these materials, to critically assess how close Zongmi’s interpretations are to those texts. Based on this report, in this essay, I analysed Zongmi’s “philosophical stance” that evaluates Zen sect thought of the time. Ultimately, Zongmi presumes an innate morality, existing a priori in human nature. Having identified this premise, I made an argument for the existence of the transcendental morality asserted by Zomgmi through the ‘demonstrating method.’ In this process, I provided arguments both for those adhere to the doctrinal system and those who don’t. For the former, my demonstration is based on the doctrine of The Awakening of The Faith in the Mahayana (大乘 起信論) , and for the latter, the theory of “empirical-effectiveness.” |
