Most Buddhist Sutras help awaken people with ignorant and foolish minds to have bright and enlightened minds. Especially this Diamond Sutra clearly addresses how a man who reached the utmost enlightenment by setting out in the Bodhisattva-vehicle(阿耨多羅三藐三菩堤) can stand, progress and control his thoughts. First and foremost, how we control our thoughts? It is critical to know the reality of a self. A foolish self who has attained the sign of a self or of a being, or the sign of a living soul or of a person grasps to the perception of these even though that is indeed no perception. He simply fails to see the reality of a self. With a perfectly enlightened mind, you come to realize that true perception is no perception. Therefore, if you master the true perception of a self, you com to have no sign of a self, a being, a living soul or a person and then have no perception of all these and become a true Bodhi-being. It is because there is no such things as a reality of a fixed sign. Thus, to control our thoughts, we must practice to realize that the sign of a self is indeed no sign(無我). Now, how can we practice to stand? If your perception of a self is freed from the attachment of all the perceptions mentioned above, now you'd rather approach beings with merciful hearts than discriminate them. So you give a gift(布施) but you are not supported by a thing nor supported anywhere. The heap of merit of that Bodhi-being, who unsupported gives a gift, is not easy to measure. Therefore then, the Bodhisattva, the great bing, produces an unsupported thought, i.e., a thought which is nowhere supported, a thought unsupported by sights, sound, smells, tastes, touchables, or mind-objects. Likewise, the essence of this Sutra is to have operception of a self and set out in the Bodhisattva-vehicl to have the utmost enlightened mind by producing an unsupported thought which is supported nowhere. This utmost enlightenment is for Bodhi-beings to stay away from foolish minds and to have bright minds. They are to live a happy life whenever and whenever possible. We are wandering off by foolish minds because we fail to see the true perception of a self and grasp to the sign of a self or of a being, or the sign of a living soul or of a person and we are bound by perception of these. As we have analyzed in the study, people who stick to the thoughts of a past and future lived with tremendous agony. As this Sutra suggests, if we realize the true perception at all and give up all the attachments in our minds, we will be able to |
