| 摘要 | Woonchu Jookweung (雲棲株宏. 1535～1615) is a renown Buddhist monk in the later Myung dynasty. He is one of the eight greatest figures in the field of Chinese Pure Land Buddhism. He is known to write about thirty works. They were later compiled as the part of the Records of the Emperor Sejong’s Choice. This collection has exerted a strong influence to Buddhism in the Chung dynasty. The thought of Jookweung is based on the Pure Land Buddhism and Seon. His career as a Buddhist started when he succeeded to the teaching of Moomoon Seongcheun(無門性天) who was a master of the Pure Landpractice and Seon Master. However, Jookweung did not just remain in the realm of his master ByunyoongJinwon(弁融眞圓), Soam Deokbo(笑巖德寶). Soon or later, he studied all areas of Buddhism including Seon, which prevailed in his time. Jookweung’s achievement comes from his efforts to make harmony between Seon and the Pure Land Buddhism. He even tried to unify them to develop a practice of meditation to which even lower level of people approaches. During the period Jookweung leaded an active life, Buddhism declined and was no longer of a strong power in China. He understood that this lies in the three following reasons：① Buddhist monks do not well preserve precepts. ② There are so many unnecessary gongan(公案) that results in creating the confusion to Seon students; ③ There are few Seon masters who are capable of leading students to the higher stage. In order to solve these problems, he composed a book titled Seonkwanchaekjin(禪關策進). Jookweung’s thought of Seon is a good example for these days when so various religions and the ways of practice overflow. The purpose of this paper is to examine what problems of Buddhism Jookweung saw at his days and how he confronted to solve them. Specially, it demonstrates his own way of bringing about the unity of Seon and the Pure Land Buddhism. |
