| 摘要 | This paper aims to explicate the relations between Seon and Hua-yen teaching during the end of Silla dynasty. The existing studies tend to grasp the relation in conflicting status. This is a result of general understanding the characteristic of Seon thought during the period when based on Seon-mun-bo-j ang-rok which advocate no dependence upon words and letters and special transmission outside of scriptures. However, Seon-mun-bo-j ang-rok is a work that reflects the later Koryo dynasty rather than Silla Seon. In china the no dependence upon word and letters, and special transmission outside scriptures has been shaped during the time of Lin-chi sect during Song dynasty. Seon during Tang dynasty which came to Silla did not contain the message of any conflict towards scriptural studies. On the other hands, the studies done so far elaborated on scriptural commentaries studies. Busok-sa, which was the headquarter of Hua-yen studies not only concentrated on scriptural studies, but also discussed the works of Hsin-siu of Nothern Seon. Based on the fact that venerable Mu-yeom who went to Busok-sa while learning Nung-ga Seon, it is not much to say that Busok-sa must have been under the influence of Seon. In addition to that, when compared to the traditional Hua-yen studies, Pop -ke-do-ki-chiong-su-rok also explicitly stress on the practical aspect which is similar to Seon Sect. From the above perspective, the general understanding of the conflicting relations between Hua-yen and Seon during the end of Silla dynasty should be re-examined. |
